Pink Image Breast Thermography is firmly rooted in the origins of breast thermography history. Maurice Bales, President of Bales Scientific, invented the first digital infrared camera in 1979.

Breast thermography research studies have shown that an abnormal breast thermogram is a definitive marker for potential risk of developing breast cancer, even more significant than family history.

Why Pink Image is the Gold Standard in Breast Thermography

Camera Resolution

While guidelines of Thermographic Associations state that the minimal optical line for a camera should be 480, at the minimum, some clinics are using cameras that are even below this minimal threshold for medical screening.

Pink Image utilizes the Bales TIP (Thermal Image Processor) camera, providing 600 optical lines of resolution, allowing for more detailed Infrared (heat) images of the breast. When imaging breast tissue for potential thermal abnormalities, it is important to utilize a high resolution, ultra sensitive Infrared camera. The Bales TIP camera is FDA registered under section (a)(1) of document 884.2980, which reads “intended for adjunctive diagnostic screening for detection of breast cancer and other uses”.

These images are from other Breast Thermography Clinics. This clinic’s camera is not as sensitive to heat nor does it have a high resolution. Note lack of detail.

Many other clinics do not provide gray scale images as Pink Image does. When interpreting these scans, the gray scale images provide the most information, as opposed to color images.

Color Scale and Grey Scale

Though the common images one will see of breast thermograms are in color, this is only one aspect of interpretation. To receive a full and concise breast thermography report, the interpreter MUST read in grey scale. This is where the vascular patterns are identified and how the expert makes their determinations and recommendations.

ABNORMAL THERMOGRAM

Blood vessels can form specific patterns that may signal an abnormality. To view these patterns clearly, it is vital for images to be in grey. Notice in this example vascular pattern (in grey) was noted as “highly unusual” on first study, before color images showed abnormality. Two years later, color images finally detailed abnormality that had been seen with grey one year previous.

Progression of thermal vascular pattern over time. The first set is the baseline, in which the greyscale image detailed an unusual hypervascular pattern (Bilateral TH-2). In the second set, the left breast was upgraded to Equivocal (Equivocal, TH-3). After the third set was taken, left breast was again upgraded to Abnormal (Abnormal, TH-4). Ultrasound and MRI were both reported positive, confirming previous thermographic findings.

Training and Experience

William Hobbins, M.D. – Pink Image Advisor

William Hobbins, M.D. started breast thermography in 1971 after being a mammographer in the 1960s. He realized the limitations of mammography and wanted to offer women an additional imaging technique. From 1971 to 1974 he scanned over 100,000 women throughout the Midwest. He has conducted countless studies in breast thermography and compiled the breast thermography model, by which all certified interpreters are trained. He was a founding member of the only 2 nationally certified thermography boards (AAT & IACT). Because of Dr. Hobbins perseverance, women have a greater chance of prevention and early detection.
